An Introduction to Florence and Bow
Hello, we are Caroline & Katie the faces behind Florence and Bow. You may have already met us at one of the many events we attend across Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. You may have purchased from us online and never had the opportunity to meet the people behind the business. Either way, we thought it would be a good idea to re-introduce ourselves and our business to you all.
We started the business just over two years ago and have known each other for many years before that. We first met at school in 1992 and then went on to work together in Buying and Merchandising careers. Both of us have over 11 years experience in this industry and have worked for several major fashion retailers.
Where it all Started
Florence and Bow came to life after we both took career breaks to have children, of which we have two each. Evie, Nancy, Charlie & Lily are four of the big reasons that Florence and Bow exists. During this journey we have met lots of other mums who have done the same as us and started their own small businesses after having children. It means long hours and lots of working in the evening once the kids are in bed, but it is very much worth the flexibility it can bring to managing a family alongside a job.
Starting Florence and Bow has also allowed us to indulge in our passion for interiors, homeware and being creative. Our business started with us hand making bespoke frames for gifts and we still continue to make these today. The popularity for bespoke handmade gifts has not decreased over the two years and we are delighted that this is still a part of the business.
Our business has changed and it has grown and we are incredibly proud of it. Early on we knew we wanted to start stocking a range of home and giftware alongside our handmade frames. We found our background in Buying and Merchandising helped with this and we were able to source some beautiful home and giftware. We had bespoke branded candles made for our business and we also attended many trade fairs to source the best of what was out there.
We now sell through our website and through markets, events and fairs across Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. We also have a number of stockists too, which you can find out more about on our stockists page.
We are very conscientious of what we add to our product range and it must always suit our style and our brand. This is one of the reasons why our customers return to us.
Our product range has grown and developed and always changes with the seasons. We very much enjoyed buying in for the Christmas season last year! The business never stands still and we are always on the look out for new and exciting products to join our range.
Alongside our product growth, the business itself has also taken a few other directions.
When we first started out we became frustrated very quickly at attending numerous events to sell our products that were just no good. Poorly organised and very low numbers of visitors made us feel like we had wasted our valuable time. Due to this we decided to create our own events. We held our first Christmas Shopping Event at The Old Stables in Swithland. This was an evening only event and we were overwhelmed with the amount of visitors that came along to enjoy the evening. Due to its success we decided to hold a other event in Spring 2017. This time the event was for a full day and we held it at The Pumping Station in Cropston. Again, we had such a wonderful visitor turn out, so yes, we will be doing it again! If you would like information about our events please contact us here.
We have also been very lucky to work in collaboration with Sami Tipi, Bawdon Lodge Farm and Tickety Boo Events to style and provide props for some great wedding fairs, events and wedding shoots including the Sami Tipi Spring Showcase.
Another side to Florence and Bow that has recently emerged is our collaboration evenings. Running your own business can sometimes feel very isolated and although we are lucky that there are two of us in our business, we still have questions too. Our collaboration evenings are all about getting local small businesses together to discuss ideas and share best practice within their businesses that may help someone else who is struggling with a certain area. We held our first one recently and it went down a storm! Keep an eye on our shop page and social media for new dates and ticket releases.
A Little About Us
We are friends as well as business partners and as wives and mums we both enjoy as much time as possible with our families. We also love to travel and explore new places and we both have a weakness for pretty homes and interiors.
We are slightly addicted to Instagram and find it to be a great community social site. You will find us there as @Florence_and_Bow and you will not only get to see our beautiful home and giftware products, but also lots of our family life, travels and loves too. If you want to know who has posted each photo on our time line have a look for our individual hashtags #Katie_FB and #Caroline_FB
